More than 100 daily newspapers have endorsed Obama this year. Among the latter is one of the papers that Obama knows best - his hometown Chicago Tribune. This is the first time in the Tribune of 161-year history that the paper has endorsed Democrat.

This weekend, Colin Powell - one of America’s most respected military and political leaders - announced that he will be voting for Obama.

"We need a president who will not only … basically the policy we have pursued in recent years," said Powell. "We need a president with the transformational qualities."

We could not agree more.

Since our retirement savings plummet, and we struggle to pay our bills, UAW members and our families were deeply concerned when the country is headed. After decades of hard work, many of us are no longer sure our children and grandchildren can live the American dream.

Barack Obama understands the squeeze of the middle class, he proposed a tax cut for 95 percent of working families. John McCain will do exactly the opposite, with more tax breaks for the wealthy and costly new tax on our health care benefits.

If taxes are the only issue in this election, it is clear that anyone who works for a living will do better than Obama McCain.

But the real key to sustainable economic growth is not how taxes will pay for our income. This is how the proceeds will benefit first.

Visiting the economy is reeling from the housing crisis and credit crisis.

Under these problems is the salary crisis: The average American household actually took home less revenue in 2007 compared with 2000.

No wonder Americans are drown in debt. To cope with rising prices and falling incomes, many of us had to borrow to stay afloat. But credit script is forced to cut back the Americans - and the whole economy is suffering. On October 15, the stock market suffered one of its worst declines in history after the Commerce Department reported a sharp decline in retail sales.

Obama economic plan will be given a wrong headed policies that have pushed the country on the verge of catastrophe. George W. Bush, backed by McCain, has actually worked to suppress wages of American workers.

Both Bush and McCain to fight against increasing the minimum wage. Both have tried to restrict the right to organize and bargain. Both are supported failed trade agreements that drive our wages and benefits provided by forcing competition with countries that have no enforceable labor or environmental standards.

Taken individually, each of these policies is a bad idea. Overall, the Bush-McCain agenda is constantly attacking the standard of living of American workers - which, in turn, is a major factor in our current economic difficulties.

Obama will be much needed sip of fresh air for working people.

He promised to raise the minimum wage to keep pace with inflation. He supports the right to organize and bargain, he is a cosponsor of the employee free choice act, which opposes McCain.

Obama will set a new direction in international economic policy. Instead of negotiating transactions that benefit mostly multinational corporations, Obama will manage our business relations to benefit workers and consumers in all countries.

Fairness in the workplace and more balanced international trade will translate into better wages for American workers. This is good news for workers, and every business in America, which requires payments of clients to grow and prosper.

Colin Powell was absolutely right. Obama is the least we need a leader in these challenging times - because he understands that the American dream is liable based on good jobs that support families and strong communities.
